Picture
In this thriller, Leona Stevenson is sick and confined to her bed. One night, while waiting for her husband to return home, she picks up the phone and accidentally overhears a conversation between two men planning a murder. She becomes increasingly desperate as she tries to work out who the victim is in order to prevent the crime. Could it be her?   Will anyone believe her?   How can she protect herself from brutal killers with only a phone by her bedside?

Radio fans might remember the famous Agnes Morehead version of this classic thriller, or the riveting movie with Barbara Stanwyck.  It’s a story that continues to fascinate and resonate with new audiences. Agnes Morehead’s radio version was showcased on ‘Suspense’ and was so popular it was reprised 6 times!

Cast: Anita Lento as Lenora Stevenson, J.T. O’Connor and Jill Ahrold in multiple roles along with Vince Trani who wrote an original score for the story.

The Awful Truth
by Arthur Richman

Picture
Remember when romantic comedies were actually FUNNY?  Here is one that will remind you how they USED to be done!  THE AWFUL TRUTH epitomizes the screwball comedies of the late 30's and 40's, as seen in the movie with Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. Jerry and Lucy Warriner are happily married, yet begin to doubt each other's fidelity.  They file for divorce quickly, but soon regret their hasty actions.

Before their divorce becomes final, Jerry and Lucy Warriner both do their best to ruin each other's plans for remarriage, Jerry to haughty socialite Molly Lamont, she to oil-rich bumpkin Daniel Leeson.  Custody of the dog keeps Jerry close to Lucy, and Lucy impersonates his 'sister' to foil his budding romance with Molly.  Soon, it's a madcap race to bring the love birds back together.

When a husky, good natured hillbilly lands in the middle of the Air Force infantry...it makes for government issued laughs and hilarity!
Mac Hyman's hilarious barracks novel 'No Time for Sergeants' was first adapted for TV by Ira Levin in 1955, with newcomer Andy Griffith as the bumptious Air Force draftee Will Stockdale. TheTV version was soon transformed into a  Broadway hit, and then into a movie.  Brought to the Air Force base in handcuffs because his farmer father has been hiding his draft notices, good-natured Will becomes the target of ridicule for the other draftees.  Private Irvin is especially hard on Will, but he is able to forgive him because he knows that Irvin is suffering from some mysterious disease called ROTC.  Photos Here

Lady Windermere's Fan By Oscar Wilde

Picture
'LADY WINDERMERE'S FAN' was presented by the New York Public Library at three different locations, the Bronx and Staten Island in April.
This biting satire on the morals of Victorian society and the institution of marriage was first produced in 1892 at the St. James Theatre in London to instant success. Chronicling a series of misunderstandings and deceptions, the play charmed critics and audiences alike.  Wilde's trademark wit and intelligence are represented in full force in 'Lady Windermere's Fan.

'I can resist everything except temptation.'
 Lord Darlington, Act 1.

“In this world there are only two tragedies. One is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.”
Mr. Dumby, Act 3.

Holiday by Philip Barry

Picture
Johnny Case, a young man marching to a different drummer,  finds himself engaged to a millionaire's daughter.  When he shares his views about spending his early years on 'holiday' instead of at the grindstone, it doesn't sit well with most of the family.  Two notable exceptions are his fiance's sister, Linda and their brother Ned.  Johnny soon discovers that his soul mate is not his fiance - but her free thinking sister. Their road to each other is bumpy and tangled, but love conquers all!  You might remember 'Holiday' from the film version with Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant (1938). Photos HERE

October 11 2010 – Fallen Angels

Picture
Noel Coward's Fallen Angels marked the successful debut of GOTHAM RADIO THEATRE on October 11th, 2010!  This Coward romp first debuted in 1925 at the Globe Theatre with Tallulah Bankhead as it's star.  Described as a 'fizzy comedy' and written at the height of his creative peak, Fallen Angels is fun and delightfully wicked.  It's Coward at his best - gay, debonair and infinitely sophisticated.  CAST: Valerie Gilbert, Laura Leopard, Victor Barbella, Michael Sean McGuinness, Jill Ahrold, J.T. O'Connor and William Bailey, direction by Sydnie Grossberg Ronga.
